Q:
Is application by brush, better than application by
spray?
A:
No, a quality, experienced painter can achieve a constant
quality finish with either application method. Often
spray application is the most effective way to achieve
the desired finish results.
MATERIAL
QUALITY:
Every paint manufacturer makes a range of products,
from very high quality to very low price. Any reputable
contractor should be able to explain which product they
use, and where it falls in the product line and just
what the difference is beyond "its a better quality
product". Understand what you're paying for and
verify that is what you get.
Q:
How long will my exterior paint job last?
A:
Generally exterior painting job will need to be redone
every 5-10 years. Stucco tends to last longer, wood
on the other hand expands and contract more with changing
temperatures which loosens the paint sooner.
It is best not to put off your exterior painting until
the house is badly peeling. When it gets to that condition
it will end up costing you more in correct preparation,
labor, possibly dry rot repair. The idea is to create
a sound surface for the new coats to adhere to. This
requires more time but it necessary for the paint job
to last.
MATERIALS
INCLUDED?:
Materials are often not included. This is a huge unknown
for the homeowner. No incentive for the contractor to
eliminate waste or estimate paint quantities accurately.
A low materials estimate makes the bid looks better,
accurate materials estimates do not. Proposals that
include the cost of materials bet on the contractors
expertise and give the homeowner a better view of their
final cost.
